Alessandro Cupri is a Research Fellow in Law and Religion at the Department of Law, Economics and Cultures, University of Insubria. He earned his PhD with honours from the University of Milan-Bicocca in January 2024 and was awarded for the best scientific report at the 10th anniversary conference of the European Journal of Islamic Finance at the University of Turin. He collaborates in Ecclesiastical Law, Canon Law, and Comparative Law of Religions under the chairs of Professors Alessandro Ferrari and Antonio Angelucci at the University of Insubria and serves as Subject Expert in Canon Law and Comparative Law of Religions at the University of Milan. In 2022, he contributed to the FAMI Project of the Italian Ministry of the Interior – Forum Internazionale Democrazie & Religioni (FIDR) – REMIND, coordinated by Professor Alessandro Ferrari. Following a resolution of the Scientific Council, he is also a member of the research center Religions, Rights and Economies in the Mediterranean Space (REDESM).
His research interests include religious freedom law, secularization, Islamic studies in Europe, and the relationship between religion and the MENA region. He has authored several publications on law, religion, and bioethics, including his most recent book Norma religiosa e norma secolare. La regolamentazione Shari’ah compliant nei contesti giuridici a maggioranza non islamica e la compatibilità con l’ordinamento italiano (Ledizioni, 2025), which explores the intersection of religious norms and secular legal systems in comparative perspective.
